April is National Poetry Month, so I decided to try to write a poem a day for the entire month. Writing has felt hard, messy, and heavy lately, but writing these poems has been a joy. Here are a few of my favorites I wrote during the first week.
Full Bloom The steam dances from my coffee as my son perches on my lap sucking fown his yogurt pouch My daughter wiggles and squirms in my womb I feel my heart coming to full bloom The Beauty of Slow What if we chose slow and approached this world with the wonder of a child We paused to watch the honeybee crawl along the sidewalk at dusk And spent an afternoon watching the snail slowly move along Maybe we notice all the flowers the beauty they bring Observe the way these colorful flowers paint the world Making the world a more beautiful place to reside We cannot notice the beauty that surrounds if we never take the time to slow
